Art for the people

Public Art Norway (KORO, Kunst i Offentlige Rom) states that its main purpose is to “ensure that as many people as possible are able to experience high quality art in public spaces both indoors and outdoors nationwide”. KORO produce, manage and mediate art projects at a large number of public facilities. KORO also aims to increase knowledge and interest about both Norwegian and international artists in Norway.

KORO has a diverse target audience and struggled to communicate the right message at the right time. This challenge became the baseline for the new website, which had to meet requirements as a service for their internal users, as well as being a gallery for the general public. With 7000 artworks, KORO maintains the largest art collection in Norway.

Research on the target audience of KORO and their needs was the foundation for our work on the webpage. All design and decision making was heavily influenced by the user’s voice. A lot of consideration had to be put into the site structure, and it was essential that the solution worked across both external and internal user needs.

The process included most of KORO’s employees, all keen and engaged in the value of getting optimal performance from their most important user contact point.

«We considered it important to walk the extra mile, making sure we found a developer in firm control of their codebase. Someone who follows the WordPress API and interface guidelines when developing core functionality. We are delighted with our choice of Dekode, who pulled us through an excellent process from the beginning, with frequent meetings and a high level of involvement. They have made an impressive integration with our external art database. Our new digital solution places us on the forefront of the Norwegian cultural scene”.
